Oonagh Meighan, Manager Young Peoples Programme, Discover Science and Engineering, Forfas. Discover Science and Engineering (DSE) have worked with Spiderfish and Michael Kelly several times at public science events such as Science week (Galway 2008), BT Young Scientist (January 2007 & 2008) , Irish Scouting Jamboree (August 2008) and the National Ploughing Championships (September 2008).
Discover Science and Engineering is the Irish Governments Science and Engineering Awareness programme based in Forfas.
Spiderfish were engaged to run science and engineering workshop activities at the above mentioned events. Such workshops involve young children working with the Spiderfish team to build robotic and electronic type devices. Typical workshop schedules are 30mins duration, 20 children in attendance, 1 workshop per hour for several days. Spiderfish worked with DSE from workshop inception and concept planning to final deliverance at the events with the children. A typical task cycle executed by Spiderfish for such workshops is: technical concept design, concept testing, ensuring child safety, sourcing and purchasing of materials, set-up and delivery of workshop.
DSE have found working with Spiderfish an enjoyable and rewarding experience.
